Towards Rule No. 1

I grew up in Germany, and my wife is from Ireland.

When my son was about 4 years of age he got a toy that – when you pressed some buttons – it made farmyard animal sounds. So, you pressed the cow button, it said: moo.

You pressed the sheep button, it said: baaa.

You pressed the rooster button and it said ????

Well, that’s the point of the story.

If you are from Germany (and Poland, and Russia and all the way to China) you hear: Kikeriki.

If you are from an English-speaking country you clearly hear: cook-a-doodle doo.

We pressed the same button!! We – clearly!!! – heard different things.

How is this possible?

Well, we have different knowledge, background, even different kind of phantasy.

It doesn’t matter.

And here is the message:

Whatever YOU hear, that is your picture.

Don’t ask/analyse where it comes from.

Just accept it.
